The book of Hebrews
The Book of Hebrews reminds us as believer to live with Gospel Grit, that is a radical reliance on Jesus. We are reminded to live this way because throughout our lives we will face trials, which discourage us or cause doubt. Additionally, in our culture now people feel like pain is meaningless. You can see evidence of this belief all around: Downs baby, old age, mental illness, etc. lead to us thinking about how to spare others and ourselves from pain rather than expecting grace to be enough even in our weakness. In 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul writes of his own experience:
2 Corinthians 12:9 English Standard Version (ESV)
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
The truth is that life is not easy, but that Jesus redeeming work is glorious. Our trials and temptations are not empty of value. Suffering isn’t meaningless. And, Jesus is enough in times of trial.
