Rooted in the Word

Psalm 1 paints a beautiful image of believers living and thriving on the Word of God, like a tree receives life from the streams of water it is planted by.  The promise given in that passage of Scripture is that even if things are difficult, like when the weather is dry and all the grass withers, that tree will be well because it is rooted in life-giving water.

We are meant to live upon the word of God. Just like the tree needs water, so we the Word of God. The Word is not simply something to learn and then apply, as you might do with a wise saying or mantra. The Word of God is vital for our very life. Jesus says it this way, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). On Sunday mornings we aim to root our hearts and lives in the Word of God that we live and thrive.
