Luke 18:9-14 (NIV)

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

This month we are honoring another important children’s ministry – Children’s Church.

I am sure you have noticed that after the worship team have finished their song service, and before pastor begins his sermon, there is a mass exodus of little people leaving the sanctuary. They are headed for their own church service usually held in the large Sunday School room just off the gym area. While there, they sometimes do a craft, have a snack, sing some more songs and hear a lesson designed just for them.

There is always an adult worker who plans the service each week along with a couple teens helping implement those plans. For many of those teens, this will is their first exposure to learning to serve God in ministry. They are learning firsthand what a joy it is to serve their Lord and Savior.

Children’s Church has several goals. It is the stepping stone between the nursery and sitting through the sermon in the sanctuary. It frees up the parent to listen to the sermon undistracted by having to attend to the needs of their little ones and it provides a lesson geared to appeal to our children and help them grow up to love church.

In the coming weeks we will be learning more about this important ministry, and the volunteers who give up their valuable time to work with our precious little ones. Perhaps some of you will feel led to volunteer for this wonderful ministry.

The Elim Care and Rehab Center in Milaca will be hosting a six-week Grief Support Group on Tuesday evenings in November and early December. Pastor Tom Sahlstrom, Milaca Elim’s Chaplain, will be the facilitator.

The group will meet from 7:15pm to 8:15pm in the Ministry Center (chapel) at Elim. Topics to be covered:

Nov. 5th: “Acquainted with Grief” Together

Nov. 12th: Dealing with the Feelings (Loneliness and Anger)

Nov. 19th: Dealing with the Feelings (Guilt and Regret)

Nov. 26th: Liberty to Express Our Grief

Dec. 3th: Dealing with the Depths (Depression)

Dec. 10th: Seeking Life Reorganization/Seeking God
